Path: Technical University of Crete > Departments > Mineral Resources Engineering> Undergraduate Studies
The purpose of the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering
is to educate engineers in a broad range of scientific and
technical methods and activities related to the detection,
positioning, extraction, and processing of minerals, as well
as to the environmental impact and remediation of land reclaimed
from mining activities.
The coursework in the Mineral Resources Engineering Department
(MRED) focuses in particular on the industrial minerals and
energy resources, which play an important role in the development
of the Greek economy.
The changing demand for minerals dictates the development
and utilization of modern methods for exploration and exploitation.
This trend generates the need to train engineers capable of
meet the new challenges and forming appropriate specialized
fields in higher education.
Undergraduate curriculum focuses on raw materials including
metals, industrial minerals, petroleum, coal, natural gas
and geothermal energy, which play a major role in the economic
development of Greece.
